Wish Us Luck On Our 4 Leaf Clover Hunt

>> Sunday, March 28, 2010

The kids got home after our gecaching and decided to play in the yard for a while after they took a nap.  We have a patch of clovers growing by the fence so Mia explained to Blayke that the 4-leaf clovers are lucky.  They quickly set out in search for one.  They were out there for almost an hour.

Treasure Hunt #2

We went out Geocaching again and this time we went looking for 5 caches hidden by the same person.  We found 3 of 5.  One of them was in a field that was way too muddy and wet for us to go through.  The other one we just could not find.  We will try to look for that one again some other time.

The three caches we found we all under light post boxes all over town.

We are applying to set our own caches this one will be a swap cache with a log.  If you take something you have to replace it with something of yours.

This one is just a log.  We are still looking for good places to set them since we will have to check them periodically.

Next weekend is a long weekend for us so we will be hitting a few over a three day period.  I see a couple of road trips in our future.

Week #1 of our 5K Training

>> Thursday, March 25, 2010

We were up at 5:00 AM this morning to start our training.  Guy goes first for 1/2 hour and then me.  We can't leave the kids alone you know!  Since Guy already has a history of running his training is a little more advanced than mine.  He warms up for 5-10 minutes with walking, runs 1 minute then walks 1 minute for a total of 20 minutes, then a cool down of 5-10 minutes of walking.  Mine on the other hand is different.  I have the same warm up and cool down but I run 1 minute and walk 3 minutes for 20 minutes.  At the end of the week we have to run/walk One mile regardless of time (although we have to keep track of how long it takes us).

Running For Our Lives

>> Wednesday, March 24, 2010

Guy and I have been talking about getting in shape. It did not help that we were looking at pictures from the past and realized that we are just plain and simply fat.  So after much discussing we came up with and idea on how to get in shape.  We both miss having a hobby of our own.  You know some alone time to think and be away from everyone.  So we have decided to train for a 5K run.  Yes that is right! We officially start our training tomorrow morning.  We are registered to run a 5K on Sunday September 26, 2010 (in Concord).  Per our trainer this will give us both enough time to train and be successful.  We are looking forward to it.  We will be blogging about some of the milestones so stay tuned.

Coupon Clipping Machine

>> Tuesday, March 23, 2010

So I have been carefully scanning the ads and going through my coupons since Harris Teeter is tripling coupons this week.  I have only been shopping at Target & CVS this weekend to get some free/discounted items such as Tide, Colgate, Pupperonies, Makeup, Starbucks Coffee etc.   Tomorrow starts my grocery shopping.  I have 75 coupons that are totaling up to $136.00 after they are tripled.  I know it's lame but I am excited to see how much stuff I am going to be able to buy.  Gotta break it up into 4 trips though since I am only allowed to use 20 coupons per day.  WISH ME LUCK!

Treasure Hunt #1

So we went Geocaching this morning  Mia and Blayke were up as soon as the saw the sun rise asking if it was time to go "treasure hunting".  we found 4 out of 5 caches today.  We started at 9:30 AM and finished up around 12:30 PM.  Here are of pics of what we found.

This cache was hidden pretty well in a patch of woods by a duck pond with in walking distance from our front yard.

It had a log inside, which we signed and dated and returned to its location.

This one was hidden just off a walking path near a local ball park.

This one was a trading cache with a Log book.  Mia took a silver bracelet and left the little dog toy as the replacement.

The kids found several little treasure during our hunt.  A few baseballs, golf balls, and a protractor.

We can't wait to go again next weekend.  We are hooked!

We Are Going Treasure Hunting!

>> Friday, March 19, 2010

We have been talking about finding a new hobby for us to do as a family.  Saturday's are our "Family Day".  That is our day to spend time with each other (just the four of us).  Guy and I came up with the idea of going Geocaching.  For those of you not familiar with it - Geocaching (pronounced geo-cashing) is a worldwide game of hiding and seeking treasure. A geocacher can place a geocache any where in the world, pinpoint its location using GPS technology and then share the geocache's existence and location online. The caches usually contain items to trade, a logbook and sometimes a camera so the finder can snap a picture of themselves. Most often, the caches aren't hidden in plain sight. Anyone with a GPS device can then try to locate the geocache.  Geocaches are literally everywhere around the world.  You will surely find a few within a couple miles of where you live or even withing walking distance.

For those of you who want to try it just go to http://www.geocaching.com/.  It is free with the exception of a little gas, energy & time.

Our Two Little Book Worms

>> Thursday, March 18, 2010

We have been reading to the kids since they were in my belly so the kids have grown up with a love for books.  These are two of the books they are reading this week.  They LOVE them and are having a great time spending our evening down time reading with us.

Mia's Book for the Week

It's an Easter Egg-stravaganza!
Lucille is having an Easter Egg Hunt at her rich expensive mansion! And guess what? The winner gets a play date to swim in Lucille's heated indoor swimming pool! Only, here is the problem. How did Junie B. get stuck wearing a big dumb bunny suit? And how can she possibly find eggs when she keeps tripping over her huge big rabbit feet? Being a dumb bunny is definitely not as easy as it looks. Will Junie B. end up with egg on her face? Or will the day deliver some very uneggspected results?

Blayke's Book for Week

A brand-new character enters the Marvel Universe ... and he's just a kid What would it be like to live in the Marvel Universe? How exciting would it be if Spider-Man, the Hulk and the X-Men actually existed? Find out as we look at the Marvel Universe through the slightly skewed vision of Gus Beezer Gus loves superheroes and spends his days living out his dream of becoming his idols . . . going on adventures only he can see. Great superhero action for children of all ages in four awesome adventures starring Spider-Man, Wolverine and the X-Men, and the Incredible Hulk

1 Corinthians 14:12 (Today's New International Version)

"So it is with you. Since you are eager for gifts of the Spirit, try to excel in those that build up the church."

We are on our way to visit a new local Church. It was recommended by someone Nelda met at the Charlotte Catholic Diocese. FYI- more than 65% of the people that work/volunteer at the Diocese are not Catholic.

So off we go in our Sunday best to work on our Spirits.
