Discovery Place

>> Monday, May 31, 2010

Rainy day once again so we went to Discovery Science Place for some fun out of the house.  We took the Lynx train in to make the trip more fun.

We watched a 3D movie and played with all of the displays.  Then we went out for a nice lunch at a local Mexican restaurant.  We had a great day!

This exhibit was about all of those little things that live in and on our bodies.  Kinda gross, cool and fun all at the same time.

Run through the fog to play with the musical lights!

Music Fun!

Crank it up!

Wow that's high!

Trying to load another one.

Silly Goop Fun

We were planning on making home made glitter playdough for Birthday Blessings but the kids wanted to make goop to play with instead.  Unfortunatley we could not find our food coloring but they were happy with it being white anyway.

Blayke got a little impatient!

Days of fun!

Birthday Blessings Bracelets

We made some bracelets with pipe cleaners and beads while we watched a little TV.  Dad even got into it.  The kids really enjoyed this especially Blayke.  The bin of beads was less than $5.00 and so were the pipe cleaners after using our coupons so this is a very inexpensive activity that kept them busy for hours.

We got a few done.  I think 20.  The goal is to have 100 made for the goodie bags this summer.  Mia thought this was a great gift for girls.  She said " I would like to get lots of these."

Birthday Blessings Chalk Gifts

We are going to make a few goodie bags for Birthday Blessings before we leave for our Florida vacation.  So we thought of some fun outdoor summer fun to give.  Chalk obviously came to mind.  Instead of just buying chalk though we thought it would be fun to make some fun shaped homemade chalk for the bags.

We are going to make a few more in different colors.  Blayke likes the Football ones "cause their for boys and the Mia ones can be for girls"

Memorial Weekend Rainy Day Planning

We were looking forward to Memorial Weekend  not so much the rain we were predicted to get all weekend though.  We decided to make a few runs on Saturday to pick up some items to make a few of our Birthday Blessing gifts since we were gonna spend a lot of time indoors this Holiday Weekend.

Of course we had to get a Geocache fix in since we had not been in a while.

Blayke left this motorcycle and Mia a Petshop in exchange for a Pearl Pendant and bouncing balls.
We left TB's Red Mini Capsule Geocoin and Kookie Koala.

We picked up the following two trackables:

MC's Silver Light Geocoin -Sanibel Island Lighthouse in Florida -Current GOAL: This coin's mission is to visit at least one cache in each of the 50 US state capitals. It was originally placed in a cache in North Carolina on 7/4/08.  It has traveled 2,287 Miles.  We are going to plan a day trip to drop it in Columbia SC in the near future since it has not been to that state capitol yet.

"Ormoc, Philippines" Unite for Diabetes Travel Bug - Current GOAL: The goal for this Unite For Diabetes Travel Bug is to raise awareness of diabetes by traveling to Ormoc and within Ormoc, collecting photographs and geocaching logs along the way.  This TB was originally placed in a cache in Southern England on 12/28/06.   It has travelled 29,089 miles.

This one was a little special to me since my mother has had diabetes for over ten years now.  TB's like this are nice to find to raise awareness at any level.  We will be moving it along shortly.

We got a little hungry after the caching and shopping so we stopped at a BBQ stand and enjoyed some sandwiches and fresh sqeezed lemonade. Don't know why but my kids have a habit of closing their eyes when they take a bite of anything they are eating.  Almost as if they need to concentrate on their sense of taste to savor each bite.  It's cute!

Back on Track

So yes we have been slacking with our 5K trianing. With us being sick, then rain and just plain old laziness we have gotten of the beaten path.  It's crunch time now so we are back to really training.  It's gonna be tough to make the September 5K  but we are determined to do it.  Encouraging Words (and prayer) are welcome.

Serving Others Is A Good Thing!

Now that the kids are a little older we have been stressing the importance of serving others. Philippians 2:4 (NLT) "Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too". So we are dedicating this Summer to "Serving Others".  Here are few of the things we will be doing to help out those in need.

1) Prayer - We do this several times a day but we are going to extend it to praying for someone new that we meet everyday.  This will give us an incentive to get out and meet someone new on a daily basis.  Who knows we may make a few new friends. There may be a person we meet that has plenty of money, but just needs friendship. This person may only need someone to sit with a talk to on a lonely day.

2) Making Party Favors and Decorations - Birthday Blessings (http://www.birthdayblessings.org/)  brings birthday joy and support to homeless children and their families. They believe that every child deserves to be celebrated, regardless of circumstance. So we will be making party favors, goodie bags and decorations to donate.  This will be an on going activity through out the year.

3) Hug A Puppy/Walk A Dog - While we are in Florida we will be helping out a few days at Southeastern Guide Dogs (http://www.guidedogs.org/).  We will be Puppy huggers helping out 6- to 9-week-old puppies become comfortable with people by interacting with them. Then we will walk more mature dogs on campus to provide mild exercise, recreation and occasional grooming.  Their mission is  "To create and nurture a partnership between a visually impaired individual and a guide dog, facilitating life's journey with mobility, independence and dignity".  We are excitd about helping them out.

4) Deliver Meals - Friendship Trays (http://www.friendshiptrays.org/) is a local Meal on Wheels. They delivers more than 600 meals daily to elderly, handicapped, and convalescing people who are unable or greatly restricted in their ability to prepare or secure meals.  We will be delivering meals one day every other week.  We are scheduled to take a tour of the facility June 15th and will be assigned a route to start the week of August 9th.  We are looking into signing Mia up for their week long Summer Camp working at their Frienship Farm & Garden (http://www.friendshiptrays.org/Gardens/Camp/2010/CampMain.htm).  Looks like fun and a great opportunity to learn more about how to help others.

We will keep you posted on our progess!

Custom Lap Trays For The Car

The kids have been really getting into drawing and coloring lately so when I saw these Lap Trays on Sale for 1/2 off I grabbed two for the kids to keep in the car.

Blayke went with a sports theme while we waited for Mia to get home from school.

He put his initials on top, GO TEAM across then put a Soccer Ball, Volley Ball, Foot Ball, Base Ball, Golf Ball and Basket Ball.

Mia started hers as soon as she got home and had a snack (homework had to be finished too).

She wrote her name on top and put Butterflies, Dragonflies, Lady Bug, and Bee's flying across her tray.  Hunter just had to come take a peek and see what all the fun was about.

Evening Outing

Guy had a dinner meeting last night so I figured I would take the kids out since he was gonna be home late.  They have really missed their daddy since he was gone for a week in VA.

So we set off to the library first.  Time to get some new books

Then it was off to the Circus.  It was a small circus from Mexico.  Not a big audiance but the kids had a blast.  They got in for free so it was worth it.

Guy On A Mission

>> Monday, May 10, 2010

Guy had to go to a job site in Virginia this week so on his way he decided to hit a few Caches to break up the drive.

We have started The Cache Across America Series: This is a series of caches that will take you on a caching tour of the entire United States. One cache is hidden in each of the 50 states. These caches each contain a numeric clue that will lead you to one final cache located in our nation's capitol upon completion of the series. He found the one here in NC on his way to work a few weeks ago.  Since he was going to VA this week we tracked that one and were happy to find out it was just miles from his hotel.

Found it under a boardwalk. He left TB "Life of a Black Lab" here.

He dedicated it to me in Honor of Mother's Day.  How sweet!

He found this Travel Bug in the cache.  It name is "Kookie Koala" Current GOAL: Kookie is crazy for international travel. Just about anywhere in the world. Although she likes her home in Arizona, she yearns for the adventure of being a world traveler. Kookie would eventually like to return to the Phoenix Arizona area by December 2010.  Kookie has traveled 12,907 miles since being placed in her first cache on June 16,2006.

Mother's Day Breakfast

>> Sunday, May 9, 2010

Guy made me a Bagel Egg Sandwich for breakfast this morning.  The kids don't like eggs so I made them Fruit Cabobs.

Red and yellow apples, navel oranges, bannana, pears on a stick yummy!

I know playing with your food is not good manners but they were having too much fun pretending they were sword fighting.

It was a great Mother's Day Morning!

Nap time now to distract them away from daddy leaving!  We will miss him while he is gone.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO BLAYKE!

>> Monday, May 3, 2010

We started celebrating Blaykes birthday this weekend. Here are a few pics of his gifts.

We went to dinner at Five Guys with Nana & Pop. Their friends Jackie and Gordon joined us for the fun.  We then went back to Nana & Pop's house for some cake and gifts.  Blayke chose cupcakes over a big cake which was just perfect since him and Mia were the only kids.  He chose the clown cupcakes and saw they had a pink one so he got one for his sister.

There is the birthday boy blowing out his Batman candle!

He got some great clothes from Uncle Clay & Aunt Brittney, JoJo & Madi.  He is all set with a new wardrobe.  Sharp dressed man now!

Aunt Wendy and Uncle Donn sent these Cars characters all the way from Texas.  These are a great addition to his Cars Collection.

Aunt Sandy and Uncle Charles got him these Legos.  He was building all morning with them.

Aunt Jackie & Uncle Gordon got him the Spiderman briefs and a box of Crayons.

Nana & Pop ended the festivities with a HotWheels collection box (with some hotwheels), Swimming Pant with T-shirts & some socks.

He made out like a bandit.

Mimi sent Blayke a Gift Card for his Birthday so we went shopping today for his gift.  After walking the store 3 times to make a decision he decided to go with these Spiderman Shoes that light up instead of a toy.  Great Choice.  He put them on before we even got out of the store.  The Cashiers thought it was cute that he wanted to wear them out.  He also got some beach/pool toys and bought some swim shoes too! He's a pretty good shopper!
